Malawi Network of Older Person’s Organisation (MANEPO) has condemned in strongest term people going around claiming that older persons will become blind once they receive Covid-19 vaccine, saying this is a total lie and a setback in Covid-19 pandemic response.

MANEPO Country Director Andrew Kavala made the condemnation at Sakata, Traditional Authority Nkagula’s area in Zomba district during Covid-19 launch awareness campaign for older persons

Kavala added that myths and misrepresentation of facts about Covid-19 towards older persons violate their fundamental rights to receive medical care as enshrined in the United Nations chatter to which all member states in cluding Malawi are signitories.

“Let me Caution those people going about fabricating malicious lies that once an olderly person gets Covid-19 he or she goes blind, that it is not only a violation of fundamental human rights but also violating the law,” Kavala said. .
